The Nigerian president, Muhammad Buhari prior to his election vowed to crush the insurgency within 14 days but has found it a difficult task as more than 750 people have been killed by the sect _AFP count

Buhari who was in Washington for his first USA official trip Wednesday gave a warning that the US refusal to grant arms because of the "said human rights violations"  is a boast on the sect operations.

Buhari who left to the US full of hope of getting military assistance has regrettably insinuated he would come home empty handed due to a US  law against sending weapons to countries with cases of human right abuses.

" Regrettably, the blanket application of Leahy Law by the United States on the grounds of unproven allegations of human rights violations levelled against our forces has denied us access to appropriate strategic weapons to prosecute the war" the President narrated to an audience of resource persons, activists and academics.

He also added that the Nigerian forces has been left "largely impotent"  to tackle Boko Haram assaults.

" they do not possess the appropriate weapons and technology which we could have had if the so-called human rights violations had not been an obstacle " he added.

Unwittingly, and I dare say unintentionally, the application of the Leahy Law Amendment by the United States government has aided and abetted the Boko Haram terrorists"    _president Buhari

The President also made an appeal to the US White House and the US Congress to find a way of providing Nigerian troops with high-tech weapons.

The President had also in recent times commenced investigations "and probe"  of some security personnel who worked under the immediate past president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan and has said he will leave "no stone unturned" in reviewing every irregularity in the previous administration.
